Arterial Compression Pumps for Lower-Extremity Circulation Support

Arterial Compression Pumps

Clinician-directed intermittent pneumatic compression designed to support circulation in selected patients with lower-extremity arterial disease.

Overview

Another Compression-Therapy Option for Arterial Care

In addition to lymphedema compression equipment, Advanced Rehab Technologies offers an arterial compression system for patients whose physician determines that arterial-assist intermittent pneumatic compression is appropriate for their condition.

Peripheral arterial disease can reduce blood flow to the lower extremities and may be associated with symptoms such as claudication, rest pain, and difficult-to-heal wounds. Treatment is individualized. For selected patients, a clinician may consider arterial-assist intermittent pneumatic compression as an adjunct to the broader treatment plan.

Bio Compression Systems

High-Pressure, Rapid-Cycle Compression

The manufacturer describes the Bio Arterial Plus as an intermittent compression system that sequentially compresses the foot and calf for patients with arterial disease. The system is intended for clinician-directed use and includes adjustable pressure and home-use features.

How It Works

Sequential Foot-and-Calf Compression

The system uses timed pneumatic compression of the foot and calf. The treatment settings and duration should be determined by the prescribing clinician and device instructions.

Rapid Compression Cycle

The pump alternates compression and non-compression periods in a repeating cycle.

Adjustable Pressure

Pressure is adjustable within the device's specified range and should follow the prescribed treatment protocol.

Designed for Home Use

The manufacturer lists the system for home use with timer/continuous modes and a compliance meter.

Manufacturer-Listed Indications

When May Arterial Compression Be Considered?

Bio Compression Systems lists the Bio Arterial Plus as adjunct therapy for selected patients with ischemic lower-extremity disease. Examples listed by the manufacturer include:

✓Intermittent claudication
✓Rest pain or night pain
✓Arteriopathic wounds or ulcers
✓Small-vessel disease
✓After angioplasty/stent failure
✓After graft failure or selected minor amputation situations

Prescription and safety guidance matter.

This page is educational and does not determine whether a patient is an appropriate candidate. A prescribing clinician should review the patient's vascular status, contraindications, precautions, treatment pressure, and treatment duration. Follow the device manual and medical instructions.
