FAQ
What is Pneumatic Compression Therapy?
Pneumatic Compression Therapy is a non-invasive therapy that uses gradient, sequential compression for the treatment and management of lymphatic and venous disorders. The therapy creates a physiologic milking action for lymph-edematous limbs.
Who is a candidate for Pneumatic Compression Therapy?
1. Primary Lymphedema is related to a developmental abnormality in the lymphatic system.
- Congenital (Milroy's Disease)
- Proximal Obliteration
- Distal Obliteration
2. Secondary Lymphedema is the most common form of lymphedema and usually occurs after surgical procedures.
- Post-mastectomy
- Groin dissection
- Other limb surgical procedures
3. Venous Disorders
- Chronic Venous Insufficiency
- Crural Ulcers
What are the benefits of Pneumatic Compression Therapy?
By stimulating the lymphatic and venous systems, stagnant fluid is gently pushed through the vessels in the limbs. This allows the venous system to reabsorb fluids, may reduce limb heaviness, and may help reduce the possibility of recurrent limb infections.
How is the cost of Pneumatic Compression Therapy paid for?
Therapy modalities may be covered if the patient carries private insurance, Medicare Part B, Blue Shield 65 Special, AARP, or other supplemental insurance plans. Coverage depends on the patient's plan and eligibility.
